光が死んだ夏 is an ongoing series by mokumokuren, about a boy named Yoshiki and a creature that takes over the body of his friend Hikaru. though it's probably best known for the 'ell jee bee tea' panel, i started reading it because of the ethereal illustrations (honestly, flip to any page and you'll find something beautiful) and evocative premise, which sits somewhere between slice-of-life and psychological horror. but i think that the reason this manga is so special to me is because of the attention and care put into the characters, especially the relationship between Yoshiki and "Hikaru". both characters are so so so close to my heart, but Yoshiki especially. every aspect of 光が死んだ夏 is beautifully designed and fleshed out, making the work feel whole and intimate, and creating my favourite manga of all time 핲
